Assignment 9-Bood diamond

1. Do you think the violence depicted in the film is necessary to accurately portray the situation in Sierra Leone in 1999?
-Yes, I think they are neccesary. There were very shocking violence scenes that make us think seriously about the terrible situation in Sierra Leone and in other parts of the world where the people is been exploit.

2. The film began and ended in Antwerp, Belgium. How did events in Belgium relate to events in Sierra Leone?
- The film finished in Belgium where the Kimberley process takes place in order to stop diamond trade.

3. Why did Danny Archer become involved in the conflict diamond trade?
He become involved because he want to make money easily, so he started dealing with diamonds until he realise thank to Maddy and Salomon that he must fight against diamond trade.

4. In the beginning of the film, all Danny seems to care about is himself. At the end of the film, however, he is willing to die to protect Solomon. What prompted Danny's change of heart?
At first the main character, Leonardo Dicaprio, was a diamond dealer who only wanted to make money. But at the end he changed his mind and after seeing the real and precarious situation he decided to collect clues and accuse an important and very rich diamond dealer.
I think something special changed his mind like the admiration and friendship with Salomon or maybe Maddy Bowen, a pretty photographer that opened the eyes to Danny Archer.

5. What tactics does the RUF use to turn children into soldiers?
The terrorist kidnap poor children to turn them into soldiers. They obbey the children to wach extremely violence films, drink alcohol and smoke. They teach children to use all kind of guns. The children live in a chaotic and violence atmosphere. They are very young to realise what is bad and good, so they just do what the terrorist do.

6. Name one of the human rights issues addressed in the film. Did the film help you to understand this issue and will you take more interest in this issue in the future? Why?
I think the most important human rights are fredom and equality. And this both human rights are violated by terrorist and diamond dealers.
And a very important thing that our mandkind should sort out is the children explotion. I think all children should have a goold childhood, and do the normal things that every child do, like play with a ball, do sports, go to the park...

7. Do you feel differently about diamond jewelry now that you have seen the film?
Yes, I do. I think that another way to solve this problem is not to buy diamond jewelry, because if noone bought diamond jewelry the diamond delaers wouldn't deal with diamonds anymore because it doesn't worth.
But the problem is that the dealers would find another thing to deal with.

8. Did you like the film. Why or why not?
Yes, I liked the film a lot. I think is a very good film and I highly recommend it, because it collect a lot of important topics like human rights, love, friendship, impotence, family...
I think it is an accion and drama film, and it is based in real events, I mean the situation is real and it's an excellent opportunity to made people sense about this injustice.
